Multi-factor authentication (MFA) with Altru
When Altru MFA is enabled, the following processes will be carried out by Checkouts.
A prompt appears asking for a verification code. This code is:
- Sent to the email address linked to the user’s account.
- Valid for a short time.
- Required to complete the action in progress.
If the code is not received right away, a new one can be requested after a brief wait.
Signing in
After entering an email address and password, the user is prompted to verify identity.
What happens:
- The user signs in as usual.
- A verification code is sent to the user’s email.
- The user enters the code to complete the sign-in.
Once verified, the user is logged in and can continue.
Updating a password
When changing a password, additional confirmation is required to verify the user’s identity.
What happens:
- The user enters and submits a new password.
- A verification code is sent via email.
- The user enters a second code to confirm the change.
This helps prevent unauthorized password updates.
Signing in during checkout
If the user is not signed in and chooses to log in during checkout, MFA is applied.
What happens:
- The user logs in from the checkout screen.
- A verification code is sent to the user’s email.
- The user enters the code to continue checkout securely.
This helps protect both the account and purchase information.
Resetting a forgotten password
Resetting a password includes additional verification steps to ensure account security.
What happens:
- The user requests a password reset.
- An email is sent with a link to set a new password.
- After setting the new password, the user is asked to enter a verification code.
- A second verification code may be required to complete the sign-in.
This ensures the account remains secure throughout the process.
Didn’t receive a code?
If the email does not appear:
- Check the spam or junk folder.
- Wait briefly before requesting a new code, as there is a short delay between requests.
Customizing MFA language
- Click on the Checkouts main page.
- Click on Settings in the top navigation menu.
- Click on “Language”.
- Click on the box below the "Select page."
- Type or search "Shared".
- Then click on "Edit" for the needed section, in this case, any MFA-related section.
- Modify as needed and click on "Save Selection."
- Click on "Save settings."
The default copy is based on Altru’s original language, but it can be fully overridden if needed.
Why MFA is used
MFA adds an important layer of protection by:
- Preventing unauthorized access.
- Securing password changes.
- Keeping accounts safe during checkout.
While MFA adds an extra step, it significantly improves overall account security
